Solenoid valve is made up of two units: solenoid (solenoid coil and iron core) and slide valve (valve body contains a plurality of holes). Solenoid valve is an electric element for controlling the direction of fluid. Solenoid valve is placed in various pipeline networks, and it is generally driven by electromagnetic force. According to the position of valve core, change the on-off state between different paths in the solenoid valve, which can handle the direction of flow. From the view of working principle, solenoid valve can be divided into direct action solenoid valve, direct-action step solenoid valve and pilot solenoid valve. Solenoid valve have two types: single electric control and double electric control. Voltage include 12V, 24V, 110V AND 240V.
Parameter for solenoid valve selection
Valve sizes
The valve size means the internal path aperture of solenoid valve, sometimes called nominal diameter. The valve size is the main technical parameters for solenoid valve. Valve size of solenoid valve decides its flow capacity. common sizes include size 4, 6, 10, 12.
Flow capacity
The flow capacity is another parameter like valve size. There are some requirements on the flow capacity. Too small flow capacity of solenoid valve can’t reach the needs of flow control, which affect the switch of valve. Too big flow capacity of solenoid valve will lead to huge waste of equipment.
Power
The power is required power of solenoid coil at the on-position or off-position. For valve powered by AC, there is another power value, the power means required power of coil when solenoid valve is between on and off state. Kaidi is specialized in manufacturing hydraulic solenoid and solenoid coil, such as on-off solenoid, proportional solenoid and explosion-proof solenoid for Rexroth, Yuken and Vickers hydraulic valve.
Allowable leakage
As a type of valve for on-off of working fluids, solenoid valve have a certain probability of leakage, but this kind of leakage is not like the leakage of control valve, which decide small negative effect on the solenoid valve.
Work system
In general, solenoid valve must be suitable for continuous duty, and solenoid coil has no overheating or dangerous accident in long-term work system. In a word, work system of solenoid valve should fit with the temperature and insulation grade completely.
Operating time
- When solenoid valve need long-term opening, and continuous time is more than close time, normally open solenoid valve is practical.
- When open time of solenoid valve is short or it is less frequently used, normally closed solenoid valve is proper.
- For some working condition of safety protection like flame monitoring of furnace, solenoid valve with continuous electricity will be necessary.
Pressure rating
Nominal pressure and working pressure are both important for solenoid valve selection. Nominal pressure is decided by the nominal pressure of equipment. Minimum operating pressure differential for all types of solenoid valve is 0.04Mpa.
Fluid parameters
- Corrosive fluid should choose DINTOR and all stainless steel. Edible and ultraclean fluid should choose food-grade stainless solenoid valve.
- High temperature fluid should choose the solenoid valve that is made of heat resisting electric material and sealing material. Besides that, piston structure type is also required.
- Fluid states include gas state, liquid state and mixed state.
- Fluid viscosity is optional under 50cSt, over this value, high-viscosity solenoid valves are favorable.
Environmental requirements
- Explosive atmosphere should choose solenoid valve with relative explosion-proof grade.
- There is flowing backward in the equipment, choose non-return valve function of the valve.
- When the solenoid valve require field manual operation, the one with manual function is practicable.
- Open-air installation or dust should be used more occasions waterproof, dust-proof varieties (protection class should reach more than IP54).
- Submerged solenoid valve is applied in the fountain (protection class should reach more than IP68).
